About Paskitew
Paskitew is a nonprofit organization partnered with Red Willow Switch, an app development studio dedicated to cultural technology. Together, we support Indigenous communities in revitalizing their languages and reclaiming literacy through digital tools and learning programs.
Our Mission
We empower learners through syllabic literacy, digital access, and mentorship. Our programs include online resources, a community hub, and tutoring in reading and writing using Cree syllabics.
Our Work
Red Willow Switch created the Western Plains Cree Syllabics Keyboard for iPhone and a detailed installation guide. Paskitew manages language learning, resource development, and community engagement for the wider revitalization effort.
Community Access
Registered users can join a community of syllabic users to communicate, learn, and share. The hub also includes a blog, writing nest, and learning materials for educators and students alike.
Meaning of “Paskitew”
The word paskitêw in Cree means “controlled burn.” It reflects renewal and stewardship — making space for new growth through care and balance. Our goal is to make syllabic literacy thrive sustainably and accessibly.
